In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

We, at Pratham IVF, specialize in In Vitro Fertilization and have a track record of nearly two decades in carrying out successful procedures for couples across the world. Our team of doctors and medical practitioners are highly experienced in this domain that has led us to work with both local as well as international patients with a high success rate. We consult our patients and analyze their medical histories to design treatment strategies that significantly enhance their chance at pregnancy, leading them closer towards their dream of parenthood.

For IVF procedures, we have a result-driven and compassionate approach that allows us to best treat our patients. The procedure can be simply explained as a fusion of a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm in a laboratory under supervised conditions. This fusion will cause fertilization, which would otherwise be difficult for a couple due to a multitude of reasons. IVF is a method of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) that comprises several techniques that assist a woman to become pregnant. Such endeavours are pursued when other less expensive means and methods for fertilities have not performed according to expectations.

IVF Is A Form Of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). This Means Special Medical Techniques Are Used To Help A Woman Become Pregnant. It Is Most Often Tried When Other, Less Expensive Fertility Techniques Have Failed.

Let us have a look at the basic steps involved in the IVF procedure:

Step 1: Stimulation, (also called superovulation) : In this step, women are provided with the relevant hormones that can boost egg production, a process that usually occurs once a month. Further, our doctors will carry out regular transvaginal ultrasounds to examine the ovaries and blood tests to check hormone levels and carry out course correction methods, if necessary.

Step 2: Egg Retrieval : Upon generation of eggs, the next step involves a minor surgery commonly referred to as follicular aspiration where a surgeon removes the eggs from a woman’s body. It is done as an outpatient procedure at our state-of-the-art clinic frequently. Using ultrasound images for guidance, the healthcare provider inserts a thin needle through the vagina and into the ovary and sacs containing the eggs. The needle is connected to a suction device, which pulls the eggs and fluid out of each follicle, one at a time. The procedure is repeated for the other ovary. Patients may experience some short-lived cramps. In some cases, a pelvic laparoscopy may be needed to remove the eggs.

Step 3: Fertilization : Fertilization is the process of fusing the egg and sperm cells to culture a healthy embryo after completion of Egg Retreival and other necessary procedures.

Step 4: Embryo Culture : To overcome the less percentage of fertilization in IVF, we also carry out ICSI procedures where we inject one sperm into each egg. The protocols vary from patient to patient and are decided by our team of doctors and embryologists. In the case of affected male fertility, the role of an embryologist is extremely crucial as they are required to work with fewer qualitative sperms to develop an embryo. That is where our team’s rich experience and qualifications come into the picture.

In IVF treatments, we fuse sperms and eggs in one dish and culture them. However, in ICSI, we choose one sperm, immobile and catch it and inject the sperm inside the egg. In this procedure, we don’t wait for the sperm to enter the egg on its own but we do inject each egg with one sperm.

Step 5: Embryo Transfer : This step is one of the most crucial procedures. Here, embryos are carefully loaded in the embryo transfer catheter and are then transferred to the endometrium. While usually, anesthesia is not recommended in this procedure, the doctor may permit it in some cases. It is a very sensitive and intricate procedure that must be done with utmost precision.

Good quality embryos are transferred and if there are any more left, they may be preserved for future use. We recommend transferring two to three embryos, depending on the patient’s will. If the embryo is of satisfactory quality, the endometrium is good, and the rest of the treatment is smooth, then the chances of pregnancy are high.

Step 6: Embryo Biopsy: PGS/PGD : This treatment is particularly for couples who have hereditary diseases, have undergone abortions, failed IVF treatments, where the sperm quality is below par. Further, those couples worried about specific diseases to continue in their family.

While this is a brief explainer into the world of IVF, we at Pratham IVF are with you every step of the way. We firmly believe that every patient requires a unique approach, leading to heightened chances of pregnancy. We are committed to trying and fulfilling your dreams of becoming a parent.
